So it has been a while since I have really written anything in the month of April. For my case of blogging-disappearance, it has been a 28 days of hard work, little sleep, lots of supper and many cases of memory loss. In short, it had been a really busy 28 days!
Where have I been these 28 days? Gelang Patah, Johor
What was happening there? The battle to win over Gelang Patah from Barisan National (BN) through the 13th General Election (GE13)
Why was I there? To assist with the campaigning for Lim Kit Siang under Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in order to convince the voters in Gelang Patah to give us their votes.
How was it done? Many ceramah (speeches) were held all over Gelang Patah and other areas in Johor by the candidates contesting for the GE13 and some famous political figures supporting the fight. Countless days of leafleting at morning and night markets. Door-to-door greetings and leafleting. Giving out of wristbands, UBAH fans, newsletters in different languages and other merchandise.
How were we received by the people? It was a good reception by the people of Johor as a whole. Millions of people attended the ceramah that were held and were very enthusiastic about the speeches given by different candidates contesting for the GE13. When there’s white, there’s black. We had rejection too. Shouting and demanding us to leave. They would not take what we had to give out and turned a blind eye to what is really going on around the country. They were satisfied with what they had and did not want any changes.
We were once surrounded by BN supporters while visiting a Malay kampung (village) with Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) members. The BN supporters had steel bar and thick wooden stick, demanding us to balik China (return to China). They even refused any entry of PAS supporters into the mosque for prayers. YB Salahuddin Ayub and the other Muslims had no other choice but to perform their prayers in one of the PAS supporters’ house.
All in all, it was quite an interesting experience, very exhausting but I have met a whole lot of awesome people! Here are some photos during the campaigning period.
